Introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple's Always-On display feature continued with the iPhone 15 Pro and its Max variant. While useful for many, it has been noted to somewhat drain the battery. Fortunately, Apple provides an option to disable it.
For those wishing to conserve battery life on their iPhone 15 Pro or 14 Pro by turning off the Always-On display, here is a simplified guide.
Deactivate the Always-On Display on iPhone 14 Pro or 15 Pro:
This process applies to both iPhone 14 Pro/14 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max. By default, this feature is activated on new devices.
To disable it:
1. Launch the 'Settings' application on your iPhone.
2. In Settings, navigate to 'Display & Brightness'.
3. At the end of this section, you'll find 'Always On Display'.
4. There, turn off the 'Always On Display' option.
Now, your device will not display anything when the screen is locked, similar to older iPhone models. To re-enable, just reverse these steps.
Minimize the Always-On Display Elements on iPhone 14 Pro or 15 Pro:
The Always-On display feature allows quick time checks without fully activating your iPhone. However, some find its standard mode too busy. iOS 16.2 introduced two features for a simpler look: removing wallpapers and silencing notifications.
To adjust this:
1. Open the 'Settings' app.
2. Go to 'Display & Brightness'.
3. Select 'Always On Display'.
4. Here, you can disable 'Show Wallpaper' and/or 'Show Notifications'.
Disabling both gives you a clock-only display when locked. Disabling notifications while keeping the wallpaper provides a clean look with just the dimmed wallpaper and time. Keeping notifications active shows them and the current Focus mode, if any.
Customize the Always-On Display with Focus Modes:
From iOS 16.4, Focus modes can influence the Always-On display. You can tailor its use based on time, location, or specific Focus modes.
To customize:
1. Start 'Settings' on your iPhone.
2. Choose 'Focus'.
3. Pick an existing Focus or create a new one (up to 10 total).
4. In the Focus details, scroll down and select 'Add Filter'.
5. Choose 'Always On Display'.
6. Set the toggle for the Always-On display as per your preference for the chosen Focus.
7. Confirm by tapping 'Add'.
8. Activate the Focus manually or set it to activate at specific times or places under 'Add Schedule'.
By following these steps, you can efficiently manage your iPhone's display settings to balance functionality and battery life.
